Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ82

Sarin’s father travelled from Simei to JB town by car at an average speed of 60km/h. At the same time there was a taxi started off together in the same direction from Simei and drove towards JB Town at an average speed of 96km/n. How far apart would they be after 20 minutes?

Solution:

The speed of Taxi is faster than Car by 96 – 60 = 36km/h

Another word, the taxi would travel 36km more than the car in one hour time.

                        20minutes is 20/60 = 1/3 of an hour

We can draw a distance as below:

                        3 units = 36

                        1 unit (20minutes) = 12km

The taxi and the car are 12km apart after 20mintues
