Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ574

In the figure, ABDE is a trapezium and ABC is an isosceles triangle. BAE = 400, CBD = 200 and CDE = 890.

            a.         Find BCA.

            b.         Find AED.

upq574-1

Solution:

            a.         ABDE is a trapezium,

                        ABD = 1800 – 400 = 1400

                        ABC = 1400 + 100 = 1500

                        ABC is an isosceles triangle with AB = BC,

                        BCA = BAC = (1800 – 1500) ÷ 2 = 150

            b.         ADC is a straight line,

                        EDC is the exterior angle of triangle AED

                        EAD = 400 – 150 = 250

                        AED = 890 – 250 = 540
