Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ564

Sarin’s mother bought some pots and cups during Ramadan. 8 identical cups and 2 identical pots cost \$80. Each pot costs six times as much as a cup. What was the cost of each pot?

Solution:

Each pot costs six times as much as a cup The cost of 1 pot was equal to the cost of 6 cups

Sarin’s mother bought 2 pots,

The cost of the 2 pots was equal to the cost of 12 cups

(8 cups, 2 pots) ==> \$80

(8 cups, 2 × 6 = 12 cups) ==> \$80

(20 cups) ==> \$80

1 cup ==> \$4

The cost of 1 cup was \$4

∴ The cost of each pot = 4 × 6 = \$24
