The figure below, not drawn to scale, shows 3 triangles A, B and C overlapping one another. The area of triangle A is 1/3 the area of triangle B and the area of triangle B is 2/3 the area of triangle C.

Express the blue region of triangle B as a fraction of the blue region of triangle C.

Solution:

Draw the model per the fraction given,

The overlepping or Area of A is 2 units,

The blue region of B as a fraction of blue region of C = __4/7__

Area of A : Area of B = 1 : 3 = 2 : __6__
