Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ523
Sarin’s mother bought 3 boxes of cookies for comsuming during Ramadan. Each box of cookies contained strawberry cookies and chocolate cookies. The ratio of the number of strawberry cookies to the total number of cookies was 3 : 8. There were 38 more chocolate cookies than strawberry cookies in each box? How many cookies did Sarin’s mother buy?
The ratio of cookies in a box,
Strawberry cookies : Total = 3 : 8
Strawberry cookies : Chocolate cookies : Total = 3 : 5 : 8
As Sarin’s mother bought 3 boxes of cookies and the ratio would remain same irregardless of number of boxes.
The tatol difference in strawberry cookies and Chocolate cookies = 38 × 3 = 114
From the model,
2 units = 38 × 3
1 unit = 57
The total number of cookies bought = 8 × 57 = 456
