Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ512

Sarin, Hairu and Fatimah were ready to travel to Kluang for their holiday. They packed their carrying bags. Sarin’s carrying bag weighed m kg. Fatimah’s carrying bag weighed 5 kg less than Sarin’s carrying bag. Hairu’s carrying bag was twice as heavy as Sarin’s. What is the total mass of their carrying bag?

Solution:

UPQ512-1

The mass of Sarin’s carrying bag = m kg

The mass of Fatimah’s carrying bag = (m – 5) kg

The mass of Hairu’s carrying bag = 2m kg

The total mass of their carrying bags = m + m – 5 + 2m = (4m – 5) kg
