Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ481

In the diagram below, ABC is an isosceles triangle and BCDF is a trapezium. BE = EF and BCD = 800.

            (a)        Find  BED.

            (b)        Find  BFE.

Solution:

            ABC is an isosceles triangle,

            AC = AB

             ECB = 800

            BCDF is a trapezium

            DE // CB

              BED = 1800 – 800 = 1000

            DEF is a straight line,

             FEB = 800

            BE = EF, BEF form an isosceles triangle,

             BFE =  FBE

             BFE = (1800 – 800) ÷ 2 = 500
