The figure below is made up of a 4-cm square and a 9-cm square. Find the area of the blue region.




            Divides the 9-cm square by dotted lines as shown

            The area of the blue region = ½ × 5 × 5 + ½ × 4 × 13 – ½ × 4 × 4 = 30.5 cm2
