Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ439

In the bag of marbles belong to Fatimah, 2/7 of the marbles are yellow. The rest are pink and green marbles. There are 18 more pink marbles than yellow marbles. The remaining 33 marbles are green. How many more pink marbles than green marbles are there?

 Solution:

            2/7 fraction of the marbles are yellow, 5/7 fraction are red and green marbles

            The fraction model

UPQ439-1            Per the model

            3 units = 33 + 18 = 51

            1 unit = 17

            The number of pink marbles = 2 × 17 + 18 = 52

            The number of pink marbles more than green marbles = 52 – 33 = 19
