Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ425

The figure below shows a rectangle ABCD. E is the mid-point of BD and F is the mid-point of BE. Given that the total blue area is 150 cm2, find the area of rectangle ABCD.

            Point E is the mid-point of DB and AC

            EF = FB as F is the mid-point of BE

            We can divide the trianges ABD and BCD to 4 equal area triangles each as the addeddotted line shown.

            The areas of the triangles are equal as the height and base are equal.

            The blue area is 1/4 of the rectangle ABCD

            The area of the rectangle ABCD = 4 × 150 = 600 cm2
