Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ385

In the figure below, XU, WZ, YO and VO are straight lines. ∠ YOX = ∠ VOW = 90°. If ∠a + ∠ c = 900. Find ∠ d.

UPQ385-1

Solution:

∠ YOX = 900 and XU is a straight line,

∠ a + ∠ b = 900

∠ VOW = 900 and WZ is a straight line,

∠ b + ∠ c = 900

∠ a + ∠ b + ∠ b + ∠ c = 900 + 900

∠ a + ∠ c + 2 ∠ b = 1800

Since ∠ a + ∠ c = 900

900 + 2 ∠ b = 1800

2 ∠ b = 900 = 450 + 450

∠ b = 450

XU and WZ are straight line,

∠ d = ∠ b = 450

To note: Only ∠ a = ∠ b = ∠ c = ∠ d = 450, then ∠ a + ∠ c = 900 in this case.
