Sarin, Hairu and Fatimah saved $49. Hairu saved twice as much money as Sarin. Fatimah saved twice as much money as Hairu. How much money did Sarin save?

Solution:

            Take the money that Sarin had as 1 unit

            Hairu saved twiced as much as Sarin

            The money that Hairu saved = 1 × 2 = 2 units

            Fatimah saved twice as much as Hairu

            The money that Fatimah saved = 2 × 2 = 4 units

            The total number of units = 7 units

            They saved $49 in total

                                    7 units = 49

                                    1 unit = $7

            The money that Sarin saved = $7
