Lower primary school mathematics question LPQ88

Sarin, Hairu and Fatimah shared $2500 given by their father. Sarin received thrice as much as Hairu. If Hairu received $50 less than Fatimah, how much did Fatimah receive?

 Solution:

Start draw the math model with Fatimah get $50 more than Hairu and than complete the model with Sarin’s money is 3 times Hairu’s money

From the model

5 units = 2500 – 50 = 2450

1 unit = $490

The amount of money receive by Fatimah = 490 + 50 = $540
