Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ320

Fatimah’s age is 2/7 of her father’s. Her father will be 47 years old in 5 year’s time. In how many years’ time will Fatimah’s age be 5/11 of her father’s?

Fatimah’s age is 2/7 fraction of her father this year

            The model

            Her father this year = 47 – 5 = 42 years old

            Per the model

            7 units = 42

            1 unit = 6 years old

            Fatimah this year = 2 × 6 = 12 years old

The fraction of Fatimah’s age to her father’s age is 5/11 after some years

            The model

             Or, rearrange the model

            Per the model

                        6 units = 42 – 12 = 30

                        1 unit = 5 years

                        5 units = 25

            After 25 – 12 = 13 years, Fatimah’s age is 5/11 farction of her father’s age
