Lower primary school mathematics question LPQ71

6 years ago, the age of Hairu’s father was 5 times the age of Hairu. Their total age now is 60. How old will Hairu’s father be in 2 years’ time?

 Solution:

6 years ago, the age of Hairu’s father was five times the age of Hairu

This year, both of them are 6 years older

The math model for based on this year age is

            From the model

            6 units = 60 – 12 = 48

            1 unit = 48 ÷ 6 = 8 years

            The age of father this year = 8 × 5 + 6 = 46 years old

In two years time, the age of father = 46 + 2 = 48 years old
