**Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ314**

Hairu is 1/5 of his father’s age 6 years ago. Their total age now is 60. How old will Hairu’s father be in 2 years’ time?

Solution:

Hairu is 1/5 of his father’s age at 6 years ago

The math model for based on this year age

From the model

6 units = 60 – 12 = 48

1 unit = 48 ÷ 6 = 8 years

The age of father this year = 8 × 5 + 6 = 46 years old

In two years time, the age of father = 46 + 2 = 48 years old
