Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ312

The figure below is made up of a triangle and parallelogram. Find the area of the whole figure.






The area of the figure is the sum of the area of a rectangle and a triangle as above shown

            ABCD is a parallelogram

            DC = AB = 12 cm

            The height of the triangle EDC = 30 – 15 = 15 cm                                       

            The area of the figure = 15 × 12 + ½ × 15 × 12 = 270 cm2
