There was a group of guests in Sarin’s house during the Hari Raya open house. The ratio of the number of friends to the number of relatives was 3 : 5. After a group of relatives joined the open house, the number of friends became 3/10 the new total number of guesta. What was the percentage increase in the number of relatives?

Solution:

At the end, the number of friends is 3/10 fraction of the number of guests

In ratio, Friends to Relatives = 3 : 7

Draw the ratio model

There are relatives joined them but not any more friends joined in

The initial number of relatives is 5 units

The number of relatives joined is 10 – 5 – 3 = 2 units

The percentage increase in the number of relatives = 2/5 × 100% = 40%
