Sarin has a new design of his greeting card. Four coloured triangles are placed inside a rectangle of sides 30cm by 22cm as shown in the diagram below. The vertexes of the coloured triangles meet at the same point Q. The base lengths of the coloured regions are 10cm and 9cm. Find the area coloured region.

*Solution:*

By added two dotted lines as shown

The area of both the10cm base triangles = ½ × 30 × 10 = 150 cm^{2}

The area of both the 9cm base triangles = ½ × 22 × 9 = 99 cm^{2}

The area of the shaded region = 150 + 99 = 249 cm^{2}
