**Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ281**

There are some classmates visits Sarin during the Hari Raya Puasa open house. Sarin distributes some candies to them. If he gives them 12 candies each, he would be short of 27 candies. If he gives each of them 9 candies, he would have 15 candies left. How many classmates visiting him during the open house?

Solution:

The number of classmates is same in both cases

By Gap Concept,

The gap = 15 + 27 = 42

The different = 12 – 9 = 3

Number of classmates = 42 ÷ 3 = 14
