Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ274

In the figure below, not drawn to scale, ABCG is a rhombus. BGF, CDF and EDO are straight lines. Find (a) ∠ x, (b) ∠ y.

Solution:

GE and FC are straight lines

                        ∠ CDG = ∠ EDF = 1100

                        ABCG is a rhombus,

                        ∠ BCG = ∠ BAG = 680

                        ∠ AGC = 1800 – 680 = 1120

                        ∠ GBC = ∠ AGB = 1120 ÷ 2 = 560

                        ∠ DCG = 960 – 680 = 280

                        ∠ CGD = 1800 – 1100 – 280 = 420

                        ∠ x = 3600 – 1120 – 420 = 2060

                        ∠ y = 1800 – 560 – 980 = 260
