Fatimah had 3 times as many marbles as Hairu. Fatimah packed all her marbles equally into 42 boxes while Hairu packed all his marbles equally into 56 bags. There are 93 more marbles in each box than each bag. How many marbles did Fatimah and Hairu have altogether?

Draw the model based on Fatimah had 3 times marbles than Hairu

Fit in the information on number of boxes and bags.

1 box = 93 + 1 bags

Base on 1 unit in the model,

56 bags = 42 ÷ 3 = 14 boxes = 14 bags + 14 × 93

42bags = 1302

1 bag = 31 marbles

1 box = 31 + 93 = 124 marbles

Total number of marbles they have = 56 × 31 + 42 × 124 = 6944

Set : The number of marbles that Fatimah had = F

The number of marbles that Hairu had = H

Fatimah had 3 times as many marbles than Hairu

F = 3H

In a box had 93 marbles more than in a bag

F/42 – H/56 = 93

3H/42 – H/56 = 93

H/14 – H/56 = 93

56H – 14H = 93 × 14 × 56

42H = 93 × 14 × 56
