**Lower primary school mathematics question LPQ57**

During Ramadan, Sarin’s father needs to hang up 3 strings of fairy lights in the hall as decoration for Hari Raya Puasa. The 3 strings of lights are in different lengths. String A is 7 m 6 cm. String B is 54 cm shorter than String A. String C is twice as long as String B. What is the total length of the 3 strings of fairy lights?

Solution:

Unit conversion

1m = 100cm

The length of string B = 7m 6cm – 54cm = 6m 106cm – 54cm = 6m 52cm

The length of string C = 2 × 6m 52cm = 12m 104cm = 13m 4cm

Total length of the three strings of fairy lights = 7m 6cm + 6m 52cm + 13m 4cm = 26m 62cm
