ABCD is a rectangle. Triangle AGE and Triangle ACE lie inside Rectangle ABCD,

(a) Find the ratio of the Triangle EFC to the area of the Triangle AFG.

(b) If CD = 12 cm and the area of the Triangle AFE is 11/24 of Triangle AGE, find the length of FH.

Solution:

Triangle AGE and Triangle ACE have the same base and same height

The area of Triangle AGE = the area of Triangle ACE

Triangle AFE is common

The ratio of the Triangle EFC to the area of Triangle AFG = 1 : 1

The Triangle AGE and Triangle AFE have same base (AE) but different in height

The area of Triangle AFE is 11/24 of Triangle AGE

The Height of Triangle AFE is 11/24 of Triangle AGE

The height FH = 12 × 11/24 = 5.5 cm
