Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ185

Sarin’s father took an express bus to JB town to visit his friend. The express bus travelled once a day from Simei interchange to JB Central and back to the interchange at an average speed of 68 km/h for 2 h. It would pick passengers up at intervals of 17 km. How many times would the shuttle bus stop to pick passengers up after it has departed from the Simei interchange to JB Central?

Solution:

The express bus took two hours to finish the route

The travel time from Simei interchange to JB Central is 1 hour

The distance from Simei interchange to JB Central = 68 × 1 = 68 km

                        The number of intervals in the distance = 68 ÷ 17 = 4

                        The number of shuttle bus stops = 4 – 1 = 3
