Sarin does a greeting card design as below figure shown. The card design shows a rectangle divided into 4 parts. The area of S is 1/4 the area of T. The ratio of the area of T to the area of U is 2 : 1. Find the ratio of the area of V to the area of U.

Solution:

The ratio of the area

S : T : (S + T) : (S + T + U + V) = 1 : 4 : 5 : 10

T : U = 2 : 1 = 4 : 2

S : T : U : (S + T + U + V) = 1 : 4 : 2 : 10

S : T : U : V : (S + T + U + V) = 1 : 4 : 2 : 3 : 10

V : U = 3 : 2

The ratio of the area of V to the area of U = 3 : 2
