Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ179

After Hairu gave away 4/7 of his stickers and Sarin gave away 1/2 of his stickers to their sister Fatimah, they had the same number of stickers left. The total number of stickers left was 312. How many stickers did Hairu give away?

 Solution:

Draw the model start with what they have than eliminate the fraction that given away

                        From the model

Left over sticker is 6 units

                        6 units = 312

                        1 unit = 52

                        Number of stickers that Hairu gave away 4 × 52 = 208
