Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ168

During a CongKak game, 3/5 of the beads in the big cavity are red beads. The rest are yellow beads. There are 45 fewer yellow beads than red beads. How many beads are there in the big cavity?

            Base on Fraction,

3/5 fraction of the beads are red beads

            Fraction of yellow beads = 1 – 3/5 = 2/5

            Fraction different between red beads and yellow beads = 3/5 – 2/5 = 1/5

            There are 45 beads different

            Total number of beads = 5 × 45 = 225

Alternative solution:

The ratio of the red beads to yellow beads = 3 : 5

Draw the math model based on ratio

             From the model,

                        Different is 1 unit = 45

                        Beads in the box = 5 × 45 = 225
