Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ165

Sarin and Hairu had a total of $338. After Sarin saved $49 more and Hairu spent half of his money, they both had the same amount of money. How much did each of them have at first?

Solution:

                        Draw a model start with ame amount at the end then work backward.

                     Total = 338 + 49 = 387

                      1 unit = 387/3 = 129

                      Hairu has at first = 2 × 129 = $258

                      Sarin has at first = 129 – 49 = $80
