Lower primary school mathematics question LPQ49

Sarin’s father is 52 years old and his mother is 46 years old. How many years ago was Sarin’s father thrice as old as his mother?

 Solution:

Draw a model based on their ages

            From the model

            2 units = 52 – 46 = 6

            1 unit = 3 years

Father was thrice as old as mother at 46 – 3 = 43 years ago.
