Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ114

The ratio of the length of a rectangle to its breadth is 7 : 2. The perimeter of the rectangle is 36 cm. Find its breadth.

Solution:

The perimeter of a rectangle = Length + Length + Breadth + Breadth

                                    Given the ratio of Length : Breadth = 7 : 2

                                    The ratio of Length : Breadth : Perimeter = 7 : 2 : 18

                                    18 units = 36cm

                                    1 unit = 2cm

                                    The Breadth of the triangle = 2 × 2 = 4 cm
