The figure below is a parallelogram. When the shaded triangle is cut off, the remaining area is 42 cm2. What is the area of the shaded triangle?

Solution:

                                    Cutting of the shaded triangle, give you a rectangle

                                                The area of the rectangle = 42cm2

                                                Given the length of the rectangle = 14cm

                                                The breadth of the rectangle = 42 ÷ 14 = 3cm

                                                The area of the triangle = 3 × 2 ÷ 2 = 3cm2
