Upper primary school mathematics question UPQ56

In the figure below, not drawn to scale, a rectangular piece of paper is folded at two of its corners, A and B, as shown. Find

(a) ∠ AEB, (b) ∠ BFC.

Solution:

Unfold the figure back to rectangle shape.

∠ GAE = ∠ EBF = 90^{0}

∠ GEX = ∠ AEG = 180^{0} – 73^{0} – 90^{0} = 17^{0}

∠ BEF = ∠ FEY = 32^{0}

∠ AEB + ∠ AEG + ∠ GEX + ∠ BEF + ∠ FEY = 180^{0} (Straight line)

∠ AEB = 180^{0} – ∠ AEG – ∠ GEX – ∠ BEF – ∠ FEY

∠ AEB = 180^{0} – 17^{0} – 17^{0} – 32^{0 }– 32^{0 } = 82^{0}

∠ EFY = ∠ BEF = 180^{0} – 90^{0 }– 32^{0} = 58^{0}

∠ BFC = 180^{0} – ∠ EFY – ∠ BEF = 180^{0} – 58^{0} – 58^{0} = 64^{0}

i got this question correct too! YAY! 😉

That shows that you are improving. Keep it up!
