Sarin had some savings in his coin bank. He spent 1/6 of his savings on a magazine and 2/5 of the remainder on a story book. What fraction of his savings was left?

Solution:

Fraction of his saving left was (5/6) × (3/5) = 1/2

Alternate solution(1):

1-1/6=5/6 (remainder)

2/5 of the remainder to story book means 3/5 of the remainder of his savings left

Fraction of his saving left was (5/6) × (3/5) = 1/2

Alternate solution(2):

Fraction of his saving left was 3/6 = 1/2
