Lower primary school mathematics question UPQ39

The figure below is made up of 3 identical rectangles.

            a)  Find the perimeter of the figure.                                                 

            b)  Find the area of the figure.

 

Solution:

            The three triangles are identical.        

            From the figure above,

            The length of each rectangle = 3 + 3 = 6cm

            The length of the figure = 3 + 6 = 9cm

            The breadth of the figure = 3 + 3 = 6cm

            The perimeter of the figure = 9 + 9 + 6 + 6 = 30cm

            The area of the figure = 9 × 6 = 54cm2
